HKDance partners with international artists to spark bold cultural exchange and creative experimentation, commissioning Xuannian Space to create an original contemporary dance work. Choreographers Shi Xuan and Zhou Niannian, active in both China and Germany, navigate fluidly between Eastern and Western cultures. Drawing on their cross-disciplinary creative practice, they have developed a nuanced and distinctive artistic language that explores the dynamic relationships between the body, society, and the natural world.
Inspired by the artistic philosophy of Wu Guanzhong, one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century art, The Silence We Carry invites audiences into the painter’s inner landscape. Dance and painting reflect one another; music and imagery interweave in shifting layers. Through this multi-sensory convergence, the work opens a dialogue across time and space with Wu Guanzhong, allowing audiences to feel the rhythm of life and its deeper meanings, where form echoes spirit and creation becomes a continuation of thought.
